Capital Gold: Britta & folk music at the Piano Factory in Hillerød

Welcome to a podcast about violinist Britta Thougaard and her work with folk music at the regional venue and cultural center, Klaverfabrikken, in Hillerød. This podcast is part of a series titled Capital Gold – Folk Music in Denmark, which is about documenting and communicating the capital's folk music and the scene it is a part of. The podcast is produced by RadioFolk.dk for Mediehaven, and is supported by the Ministry of Culture. Thank you for that! One afternoon at the end of March, I met with Britta Thougaard who, as a volunteer, has booked folk music for Klaverfabrikken's folk Club – or Klaverfabrikken/Folk as they call themselves – for the 20 years the club has existed. Klaverfabrikken is one of the Capital Region's important venues, not least for the folk music community with 10-12 annual folk music concerts on the bill, and Britta has promised this late afternoon to show me around Klaverfabrikken, and tell me about her work as a booker, and she has promised to play music with some of the folk bands that they have had visitors from over the years. Britta is a physiotherapist at a psychiatric ward in Hillerød, and works with teaching patients and managing mental illness. And she is a member of the Klaverfabrikken board, and violinist in the folk trio BOA, which over the years has become a kind of house orchestra at the regional venue.
