The podcast is produced by RadioFolk.dk before Media Garden, and is supported by Ministry of Culture. Thank you for that!

One early spring day at the end of March 2026, I visited Martin Seeberg in his cozy little home in Balloon park on Artillery Road at Islands Brygge in Copenhagen. The balloon park started as a military tent camp in 1872. 10 years later, the first of the approximately 30 barracks that still exist in the area were built, which is some of the first construction at Islands Brygge at all. The artillery soldiers who were then in training lived here. In 1893, the first breech-loading guns tested here, and in 1889 the artillery received its first balloon, which was used to monitor how far the cannons could fire at Fælleden. In 1917 a balloon hangar was built in the area, and in 1932 the artillery handed over the Balloon Park to the Army's air force.

Towards the end of World War II, the Balloon Park was used to house German refugees, but in 1947 the army relinquished control of the Balloon Park, and since 2009 the area has been owned by The Balloon Park Foundation. There are currently just over 100 adults and around 50 children living in the area.

Martin Seeberg has been – and still is – the founder, co-founder and member of a lot of significant bands on the Danish folk music scene, and for most of them you can sense that the idea was to create and invite into an exciting world of fantasy, dreams and adventures. These are bands like Tangelroots, Instinct, Asylum, Valravn, Virelai, and not least about Troll Poland which was formed in 2011. The band plays exclusively Martin's music, and the band's musicians are often dressed as trolls when they perform at, for example, folk music and fantasy festivals.

In this podcast we will hear Martin Seeberg talk about a few projects he is currently working on, about the joy of playing at dances, and about the inspiration from the world of birds. But we will start by hearing Trolska Polska play Seeberg's The moonlight menu…

Welcome to a podcast about the award-winning Copenhagen multi-instrumentalist, composer & bandleader, Martin Seeberg.
