This podcast is part of a series titled Ø-Gold – Folk music in Denmark which is about documenting and disseminating the islands' folk music and the scene it is a part of.

The music in the podcast is played by Dreamers' Circus and a collection of good friends and colleagues whom they have invited on stage at the festival. Music over Præstø Fjord, and this podcast is produced by RadioFolk.dk before Media Garden, and is supported by The Islands Art Foundation. Thank you for that!

On a lovely late summer night – or perhaps more accurately, a lovely early summer morning – in early August, we recorded the internationally renowned trio, Dreamers' Circus, while they were playing at a ball at the folk music festival Musik over Præstø Fjord.

Ballet takes place in the festival's new big tent, which bears the name The dance top. Here they have established a really good wooden dance floor. Along the sides and at the end of the room, people can sit up on the 'audience podiums' and enjoy the music and follow along, if they are not participating in the dance themselves.

Music over Præstø Fjord is a Nordic folk music festival that traditionally takes place in Anne Gretes Chamomile and Soren Korshøj's large and lush backyard in North Smidstrup, right by Brave eye, not far from Presto.

At the festival you will find, among other things, instrument workshops, ballad singing, folk dancing, listening concerts, bonfire hut, communal dining, clown troupes, Viking stalls, circus, coal-burning pancakes, bush games, dancing trees, kissing benches, and much, much more.

Dreamers' Circus is one of our most traveled bands in recent years. They tour year-round and play concerts at festivals and concert stages in large parts of the world, not least in Japan, United Kingdom and United States. But at the same time, everyone in the trio has a special relationship with the family festival Music over Præstø Fjord.

The trio consists of violinist Rune Tonsgaard Sorensen, who grew up in Roskilde folk music environment, he is also known for his work with classical music in The Danish String Quartet. Then there is the pianist and accordion player Nikolaj Busk, and finally we have the Danish-Swedish violinist and not least cittern player, Ale Carr, who comes from a family of Danish and Swedish musicians. All three musicians contribute to the trio's repertoire with melodies that they compose themselves, and they also compose together, while also going on adventures in the Nordic folk music tradition.

In the fall of 2025, a few months after the band played at Musik over Præstø Fjord, I meet Ale Carr, late one afternoon, in the middle of rush hour at Copenhagen Central Station. Here we sit down and have a cup of coffee while he talks about Dreamers' Circus' close relationship with, among other things,. Fanø, about the joy of playing at dances in Denmark when you otherwise mostly play concerts around the world, and about the love for the festival Musik over Præstø Fjord.

Welcome to a podcast about the award-winning Danish-Swedish trio, Dreamers' Circus.
