Thank you for that!

On a lovely summer day at the beginning of August, I showed up at the small progressive Music over Præstø Fjord-festival, a festival focusing on Nordic music, which traditionally takes place every year in August in Soren Korshoj and his wife Anne Gretes Kamilles amazing backyard in North Smidstrup, at Brave eye not far from Presto.

That same evening we will be recording the Funen fiddle orchestra, Fionia Folk Brothers, which is a five-piece project where four experienced folk musicians in their 40s and 50s gather around the 70-year-old fiddler and country fiddler, Jes Kroman, to play the traditional fiddler's repertoire that Kroman learned from older fiddlers in the 70s and 80s. It's about folk music traditions, it's about love and good camaraderie, and it's about creating just the right kind of energy on stage.

The task tonight is to play at a dance for an hour and a quarter in The dance top which is a large tent with a lovely wooden dance floor and audience podiums around the dance floor, where those who for some reason do not dance themselves can sit and enjoy the music as well as the dance.

Fionia Folk Brothers has been playing both in Denmark and abroad in recent years. In 2023 and 2024, they played at venues and festivals in Denmark, Germany, France, and the Faroe Islands.

We find a corner in the garden not far from the tent where the band will be playing at the ball that evening, and I get ready to interview the violinist. Jes Kroman, the band's 'grand ol' man', and Jesper Vinther, the band's accordion player.

The podcast is produced and organized by Morten Alfred Høirup and Peter Hellesør recorded and mixed the music.

Welcome to a podcast about the Funen folk music quintet, Fionia Folk Brothers, and their very special community around traditional Danish folk music.
